Theodore Jonte, born April 4, 1839, in Nashville, Tenn., was a resident of Mattoon since 1864,
till his death at his home Nov. 18, 1911. Age, 72 years, and past. Was married to Miss Emily
Ann Stoneburner of Edgar Co., Ill., April 20, 1865. To them was born one daughter, Miss Alberta.
Mother and daughter are left in sorrow. The deceased was an active business man and enterprising
citizen. He was elected Mayor of Mattoon in 1876; and was a member of the Board of Education for
many years. For several years he attended the Unitarian Church and was a liberal contributor to
Unity Church, Mattoon, and was one of the last trustees of that church. He was a member of the
Masonic Fraternity and quite faithful at the Lodge meetings so long as he was able. Rev. J. L.
Douthit (the friend of the family) conducted the funeral service at the home, Mrs. Elizabeth McNair
sang the hymn. The Masonic brethren conducted the ceremonies at the grave.
